Kimbo Slice is one scary looking dude! I can’t wait to watch his fight May 31! Wait a second, that’s today! Mixed Martial Arts is my favorite type of contact sport. Football is for wimps. Even UFC is weak. Now what guy wouldn’t want to be an ultimate badass like Kimbo Slice? But learning to fight like that is no easy task. He’s been training and fighting for years. In fact, he started as a street fighter. There probably weren’t any referees out there! So let’s have it. What’s the best way to get on the same level this guy?

1. Pick a fighting style.

2. Train for years.

3. ?????

4. PROFIT!

In all seriousness, this sort of stuff is scary. I would never want to put my body at risk doing anything even remotely resembling Mixed Martial Arts. If you decide to give MMA a try, don’t make your first match against Kimbo Slice!

I’ve never really understood the draw of watching people like Kimbo Slice get they head pounded, face dismantled, and brain scrambled. I just don’t get it.Yeah, i suppose at some level there is art to it and its fun to watch the “artistic” performance of these athletes but why so violent and base display of wanton infliction of pain? BTW, is it Kimbo Slice with the messed up ear?

I have been watching MMA since the early days of Royce Gracie. In this particular fight I was not impressed with either of the fighters. Both need to work on their sweeps when trying to transition from the guard to a mount. James Thompson had several opportunities to apply a Triangle Choke, Armbar, Uma Plata, etc, because Kimbo was leaving his arms to extended while he was on his back. I also noticed his cardio was not the way a MMA athletes should be. The referee stoppage I feel was premature. If that ref has had any experience at all he knows that grapplers with Cauliflower Ear tend to bleed from them if hit there just right. Thompson was not really bleeding that bad. Granted they are big guys, and big guys are not as quick, but I can tell there is some work to be done in the ground game. Over all I was disappointed in all of the fighters (except Gina Corona.) I have never seen fighters from the Elite XC fight before (except for Robbie Lawler when he was with the UFC) but IMO these fighters are not in the same class as fighters in the UFC, WEC, and the former Pride Fighters such as Dan Henderson and Vanderlei Silva. The “it” fight that was this weekend was the WEC Featherweight title fight between Urijah Faber and Jens Pulver. I was a little disappointed in the fight going to a decision and was hoping “little Evil” would take him, but there is no doubt that Faber is one of the best in this weight class. I feel that CBS broadcasting MMA fights is another indicator that great sport is finally starting to go mainstream.

Mixed martial arts is amazing. I am sooooo bored with boxing but the UFC has rekindled my love for contact sports. That Kimbo Slice guy is a beast but his name reminds me of an english cake you have with tea. Although I will never say that to Kimbo Slice himself thank God. Dont get me started on cauliflower ears.
